Individually renowned as soloists on their own instruments, Andrea and Djordje Gajic combine their astonishing virtuosity to bring the sounds of violin and accordion to Peebles. The first half of their programme is permeated with Slavic, 'Gypsy' melodies as we are transported to Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. After the interval, it is the 'Tango' spirit that is prevalent in music that will dazzle and delight.

About Andrea & Djordje Gajic
Andrea Gajic received her early musical training at St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh. When she was 12, she performed the Bruch Scottish Fantasy at St James’ Palace, London for Yehudi Menuhin’s 60th Birthday celebration. Two years later, she was invited by Sylvia Rosenberg to study with her at the Peabody Institute, Baltimore (where she won first prize at the American String Teachers’ Association Violin Competition).
From 1990, Andrea studied for 5 years at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, Moscow with Khalida Akhtiamova where she gained her Masters Degree and Diploma in Solo Performance. In 1996, she went on to The Royal College of Music for postgraduate studies with Felix Andrievsky.
Throughout her studies, Andrea received generous financial assistance. She was the youngest recipient of The Scottish International Education Trust and also received awards from The Martin Trust and Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarships.
Andrea has performed as soloist in Britain, United States, Russia, Lithuania, Finland, Germany, France and has been invited for 3 successive years to give recitals and Masterclasses in Serbia. She has recorded for B.B.C., S.T.V., Bavarian Radio, Lithuanian Radio, Yugoslavian Radio and Television and Baltimore Radio.
Andrea teaches violin at the RSAMD, Douglas Academy of Music and St Mary's Music School.

Djordje Gajic began his musical studies in Serbia at the age of 6, finally graduating from the Russian Academy of Music in 1993 gaining a 'Master of Music' degree and Honorary Title, 'Solo Performer'. Following the recommendation from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music for postgraduate study he continued his studies there and was appointed Assistant to professor Yuri Dranga.
Djordje has won many International Competitions, amongst them Tropheo Mondiale CMA in 1988 and the Grand Prix, France in 1987. He has also received many awards of outstanding merit leading to television and radio broadcasts. He has performed with Russian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yvgeny Svetlanov, RSNO as well as many solo recitals throughout Europe: Russia, Serbia, Andorra, Holland, France, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Norway and Britain. Since arriving to Britain he gave solo recitals in London, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham etc. He also performed at international music festivals in Dartington, Norwich, Salisbury and Birmingham.
Djordje is an accordion professor at the RSAMD and St Mary's Music School.
