QUINTET ZAMBRA
Tuesday, 1st November 2011 at 7:30pm in the Eastgate Theatre
| Debussy | Le Petit Negre (cakewalk) |
| Nielsen | Wind Quintet in A Major, Op. 43 |
| Hallam | Dance Suite |
| Ligeti | Six Bagatelles |
| Poulenc | Novelette in C |
| Dvorak | Wind Quintet (transcription of 'American' String Quartet, Op.96) |
The exciting young Quintet Zambra bring us an eclectic programme that illustrates the extensive reach of their repertoire as well as the skill of their playing. The Nielsen piece is deservedly one of the mainstays of the wind quintet repertoire, whilst the Dvorak arrangement allows us to enjoy this favourite among string quartets afresh. The shorter pieces include the familiar and the more unusual, the classical and the contemporary, and show off the full range of the quintet's musicianship.

About Quintet Zambra
Made up of graduates of The Royal Academy of Music, The Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Quintet Zambra is a dynamic group whose aim is to bring more unusual as well as familiar repertoire for Wind Quintet to audiences across the UK.
Quintet Zambra have been performing together for over four years and were recently awarded the prestigious Mary D Adams prize for Chamber Music from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. They have consequently gained a lot of fresh interest from various audiences and composers including a world premiere of John Maxwell-Geddes’ “Quango”, a performance for the Duke of Edinburgh and an unforgettable appearance in the world famous “Gherkin”.
The quintet players, as well as being dedicated to chamber music, are dedicated and skilled orchestral players and often play with orchestras across the UK including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.
The players of Quintet Zambra are passionate about bringing music to young people and are actively involved in music education work, receiving widespread acclaim. During their visit to Peebles they are spending time at three local schools, providing workshops for students there. We are grateful for the funding for these events provided by Enterprise Music Scotland, supported by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
