ABOUT MUSIC IN PEEBLES

Music in Peebles is the local chamber music club for the Royal Burgh of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. We have been bringing high quality performances of great music to the people of Peebles and the surrounding area since 1947 and are proud to be a much-prized part of cultural life in the Burgh.

We present a series of concerts each year, between October and March, and also organise a summer concert, given as part of the annual Peebles Arts Festival in August/September. Most concerts consist of solo recitals or performances by small ensembles, some using the club’s Steinway grand piano, though we have also presented orchestral and choral concerts and occasionally include illustrated lectures delivered by authoritative speakers.

The principal venue for our concerts is the Eastgate Theatre & Arts Centre in Peebles. We encourage performers to converse with the audience, introducing themselves and giving their insights into the pieces they are playing, adding to the accessibility of the music.

Each year we deliver a well-balanced programme, featuring a variety of performers and instrumental combinations. We also include a diversity of repertoire ranging from early music to established classical works as well as promoting new and contemporary pieces.

Among the performers are many international musicians and groups of the very highest calibre. It is also a particular objective of Music in Peebles to provide opportunities to outstanding young artists, especially those based in Scotland, who are striving to build their careers.

Music in Peebles has been a registered charity since 1981 (Scottish Charity number SC006906). The Club submits accounts and a report of its activities to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) each year.

In addition to this website, there are several places where you can obtain information about events organised by Music in Peebles:

All members, and others who have joined our mailing list, receive regular newsletters with information about forthcoming concerts and other items of interest. They will also be provided with advance information during the summer about the forthcoming season’s programme.
Music in Peebles Season Leaflets are available in the foyer at the Eastgate Theatre and at other locations around the district.
On payment of the annual subscription, Members receive a Syllabus, listing all the concerts in the coming season.
Our concerts at the Eastgate Theatre are listed in the Eastgate programme, which is produced every three months and is distributed to homes in Peebles as well as being widely available around the town.
Posters advertising our concerts are displayed at The Eastgate Theatre and at other selected sites in Peebles and surrounding communities
The Eastgate website has a calendar of all events at the Theatre, including Music in Peebles concerts.
Look for our features in 'Peebles Life', which is delivered free each month to homes in Peebles and Cardrona. There is also a diary section in which our concerts are listed.
All our concerts are featured in 'What's On', the quarterly brochure produced by Scottish Borders Council Arts Development, which is distributed throughout the Borders.
On the Friday prior to each concert, you will find a preview in the Peeblesshire News, with information about the performers and the music to be played.
