YOUNG PEOPLE AND MUSIC

Music in Peebles is committed to providing opportunities for young people to listen to music, to participate in music-making or to develop their careers in music. Here are some of the ways in which we aim to achieve this.

Free entry to concerts

Free Ticket

Entrance to all the concerts in our main season is FREE to school students. This gives young people the opportunity to sample the music on offer, or to become regular concert-goers, completely free of charge.

Music Workshops

In order to make live music more accessible to school students of all ages, and to give them some practical insights into music-making, we aim to present workshops in local schools, and elsewhere, by some of our visiting musicians. We will be working with the schools themselves, with Scottish Borders Council and with Enterprise Music Scotland to develop workshops appropriate to both Primary and High School students.

Music in Peebles is part of the Scottish Borders Council 'Bridge Builders' initiative, which helps to construct partnerships between educators, artists and cultural providers.

Details of forthcoming events will be posted on the Workshops page.

Young Musicians

It is a particular objective of Music in Peebles to provide opportunities to outstanding young artists who are striving to build their careers. Each season we try to include at least one concert by young musicians. In recent years, our concerts have featured the outstanding pianist Benjamin Grosvenor and the youngest-ever winner of the BBC Musician of the Year award, violinist Jennifer Pike.

Tunnell Trust Logo

We work closely with other organisations to bring young musicians to Peebles, and have built good relationships with, among others, The Tunnell Trust for Young Musicians and St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh.
